Frank H. Ford, Jr.
Co-owner with his father Frank H. Ford, Sr., of Builders Supply Company, Inc., Ford was born in Culman, Alabama. He graduated from the USM Demonstration School, Hattiesburg High and the University of Mississippi with a B.S. degree. He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy Post Graduate School of Architecture. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma and Blue Keye. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1939 until 1945 with duty in the Gulf of Mexico – Caribbean area.
Builders Supply Company was founded in 1945. The firm manufactured door units and window tresses; distributed a full line of building materials, steel mesh and reinforcing steel. The company’s offices and warehouse were located at 1110 West Pine Street, Hattiesburg, MS.
It was said by the founding members of the Greater Hattiesburg Home Builders Association that Frank Ford was a strong voice in bringing builders and suppliers together in the Greater Hattiesburg area. Frank believed that the two groups needed to work together, share information and seek ways to improving the housing inventory.Frank H. Forrest County native Jervis Mims is a graduate of Dixie School, Brooklyn AHS and attended the University of Southern Mississippi. In high school he was active in Beta and Key Clubs, F.F.A. and was a 4-H National Poultry Winner in 1951. He served his country from 1952 until 1960 as a member of the U.s. Naval Reserve.
He organized his construction company in 1957 operating in the Petal and Hattiesburg areas. Mims was elected as the founding Secretary-Treasurer of the Greater Hattiesburg Home Builders Association. He was responsible for recording board and meeting minutes, processing membership applications locally, through the Home Builder Association of Mississippi and the National Association of Home Builders.
Mr. Mims has served in a variety of leadership positions both locally, at the state level and on the NAHB board of directors. He served as president of the Home Builders Association of Mississippi.
