The City of Laurel adopted the 2012 IBC and IRC and did NOT excluded the sprinkler system requirement for residential structures. However, in a later vote the City Council did reverse that decision. Had the vote stood, Laurel would have been the first governmental entity in Mississippi that did not exclude sprinklers in homes of any size. Two other Mississippi cities have adopted the residential sprinkler system requirement but limited it to residential structures 10,000 square feet or larger.
